Mercedes just launched the all-new 2027 AMG GLS 63 4Matic+ model, and the SUV has already entered the spotlight, with digital artists pushing the car in a different direction in terms of design.
Recent renderings shared by @lidar_project on Instagram rework the updated AMG flagship into something far removed from its factory appearance. The virtual project keeps the core vehicle intact but wraps it in a collection of visual upgrades aimed at giving the SUV a tougher, trail-focused attitude.
Mercedes recently introduced the facelifted GLS 63 alongside the GLE 63 and GLE 63 Coupe. Changes on the production model are relatively restrained. Up front sits a chrome grille, while buyers have access to wheels measuring up to 23 inches. The familiar square quad exhaust outlets remain part of the package. Inside, AMG added a new AMG Performance steering wheel and continued offering carbon-fiber trim, Nappa leather upholstery, microfiber accents, and a wide selection of Manufaktur personalization features.
The digital interpretation heads in a different direction.
Instead of emphasizing luxury, the rendered GLS 63 adopts a raised stance through a lift kit. More space appears between the body and the road surface, altering the SUV’s proportions considerably. Side steps have been added for easier access, while a new wheel-and-tire package introduces much larger sidewalls. The wheels themselves appear relatively compact. The tires, by contrast, are enormous.
Other visual changes spread across nearly every corner of the body. The front bumper receives additional aerodynamic pieces, accompanied by a redesigned hood featuring vents. Wider fender extensions push the SUV outward, while the rear section gains a revised diffuser area and a larger roof-mounted spoiler. A full-size spare wheel attached to the tailgate adds another utility-inspired touch. Sitting above everything is a roof box, reinforcing the expedition theme.
The color treatment stays simple. Nearly the entire vehicle wears black paint, with only the side window trim and wheels breaking up the dark finish.
No interior modifications were presented in the renderings. The artist focused exclusively on the exterior, leaving the cabin untouched. The same applies to the mechanical package.
The standard 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4Matic+ already carries substantial output from its new flat-plane crank V8 engine. Displacement stands at 4.0 liters, assisted by twin turbochargers. Output reaches 603 brake horsepower (450 kW/612 PS) and 627 pound-feet (850 Nm) of torque. A 48-volt mild-hybrid system contributes an additional 23 hp (17 kW/23 PS) and 151 pound-feet (205 Nm).
Mercedes quotes a 0-62 mph (100 kph) time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 174 mph (280 kph). For now, the off-road-inspired widebody GLS 63 exists only in digital form, though the renderings offer an interesting alternative to the luxury-focused factory model.
