Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart has recently received a rare W124 sedan with low mileage that makes it look quite unreal for such a vehicle built more than three decades ago.

Our classic W124 comes with just 422 km or 262 miles on board, which makes it extremely appreciated amongst vintage passionate customers, especially because it is the final E 500 Limited built at Porsche`s Zuffenhausen factory before production reached its end.

The car belongs to a short closing series of 500 examples built under the Limited designation. Buyers had only two paint choices, Sapphire Black or Brilliant Silver. The museum vehicle uses Sapphire Black.

As seen in the photo gallery below, this E 500 Limited comes with 17-inch six-spoke alloy wheels borrowed from the 190 E 16 Evolution II W201. Also, from the side, the model features a wider body, which sets it apart from the standard W124 sedan.

Other aftermarket features also refer to a lowered suspension system, front extended fenders, and a revised grille.

The German-based carmaker introduced the 500 E name in the 90s as the main competitor of BMW`s E34 M5. Later on, when the facelifted model arrived in 1993, Porsche joined the game, adding new elements to the car, like chassis and suspension setup, while final assembly also moved into Porsche’s hands.

Mercedes faced a manufacturing issue early in development. Sindelfingen could not process the altered shell because the body measured 56 mm wider and 23 mm lower than regular versions. Production, therefore, shifted to Zuffenhausen. Bodies moved between Mercedes and Porsche several times during assembly before each finished sedan left the line.

Unfortunately, the production of the E 500 limited was put off in 1995, with just 10,479 units produced.  And this last Limited is special because it also marked the end of the W124 high-performance sedan before W210 entered the range.

Inside, the specification stayed close to late-series Limited trim. Recaro sport seats came trimmed in soft leather with a Techno pattern. Black-stained bird’s-eye maple covered dashboard sections and door cards. Mercedes offered gray, red, or green interiors, though this preserved car uses black and gray.

The output was supplied from the 500 SL and referred to a 5.0-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine, with 315 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque, which, for those times, was quite impressive. As for performance figures, the factory number stopped at 6.1 seconds when running from 0 to 100 km/h. The top speed was electronically limited to 250 km/h.
